Google maps of each of the Soccer World Cup 2010 stadiums (the stadiums which appear to still require some work are actually complete - other than requiring a touch of paint on some). Plans are being made to call on the ancestors to bless, to grace, to ensure that all goes well at the stadiums by slaughtering cattle at each of them.
Specially upgraded for the Fifa World Cup, the Free State Stadium gets its name from the "Orange Free State", which was an independent Boer republic from 1854 to 1902.

This stadium is built on the Green Point Common, a site where British Troops were gathered during the 1899-1902 Anglo-Boer War. The Green Point Stadium was probably an unnecessary expense, as Cape Town's slightly smaller Newlands Stadium would have been adequate.

Soccer City is the venue for the opening match and the final of the Fifa World Cup. The stadium is appropriately shaped like a giant calabash shell (the calabash is a hollowed out plant which was commonly used to brew beer in), to reflect South Africa's alcohol fueled crime problems.

The Peter Mokaba Stadium is named after the pleasant chap who coined the phrase "Kill the Boer, Kill the farmer". Mokaba was an AIDS denialist who died at the age of 43 (it's rumoured he died of AIDS).

Named after the communist, Moses Mabhida, this beautiful stadium has a stunning 100m high arch stretching across the stadium's length (350m). A must do is to take the 550 step adventure walk to the viewing platform at the top of the arch. When at the top look at the next door Kings Park Stadium, and reflect on whether the Moses Mabhida Stadium is a symbol of ill-prioritised expenditure (Durbanites are big spenders - they also spent R6.5m building this world cup webiste).

"Loftus" is better known for being the spiritual home of the fanatical rugby fans of the Blue Bulls team, who before matches line the streets alongside the stadium "braaing" (barbecuing) their meat.

By the time the Fifa World Cup arrives, we're sure the problems experienced with a loose pitch at the opening match (between the British & Irish Lions) and the Southern Kings will have been sorted out. To celebrate the opening match 5 gunmen stole takings from a bar on the fifth level of the Stadium (this occured an hour after the game, despite a security cordon stretching 1 kiliometre around the stadium, special passes, metal detectors and bag scanners).

A wetland was bulldozed to make space for a temporary relocation for a school which was situated on the site where the Mbombela Stadium was built (no environmental impact assessment was done before the bulldozers moved into the wetland). On 15 Oct 2009 over 100 protestors gathered at the Mbombela Stadium to protest that a new school had not yet been built.

The Ellis Park Stadium was home to the epic 1995 Rugby World Cup final match, in which South Africa beat New Zealand 15-12 in extra time. Watch its portrayal in the 2009 movie "Invictus", directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman (as Nelson Mandela) and Matt Damon (as South African captain, Francois Pienaar).
