Countries usually perform when the World Cup is played in their country. Japan made it to the second round for the first time in 2002, as co-host . South Korea made it to the semifinals for the first time, in 2002 as co-host. France hosted and won it’s only World Cup iIn 1998 . the USA hosted and went to the second round for the first time in more than 50 years in 1994. In 1970 and 1986 when Mexico hosted they went to the quarterfinals. In 1966, when England hosted, they won their only World Cup.
