England was the country which gave birth to soccer, but decided not to participate in the creation of FIFA. FIFA's founding nations were Belgium, Denmark, France, Holland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
During its formative years FIFA consisted only of European associations. South Africa was the first non-European nation to join it in 1910, but later on was expelled because of its internal politics. South Africa was readmitted in 1992.
