In November 2006, Hugo Sanchez was chosen as Mexico's coach. Sanchez, who is also a licensed dentist, will begin coaching on the 1st January his first test will be in February 2007 against the United States.

My mentality forces me to say that we want to be world champions, and that means taking on every tournament with that belief, that we must be champions of every tournament. I say this because we have the quality and the talent to do it, and we have to work well amongst us to realize that objective." Sanchez, November 2006.

On the 11th October 2006, Adidas and the Mexican Football Federation announced that they have entered a long-term partnership until 2014. Adidas will supply all Mexican national teams including the U-17 team, the current FIFA World Champions in their category. Twenty years after the Soccer World Cup in Mexico, where adidas was the official partner of the Mexican national team, both partners will work together again in order to promote football on all levels.
